Pepperwood Grove 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon

April 7th, 2006

Pepperwood Grove Cabernet SauvignonOne of my favorite wines.

I came across Pepperwood Grove Cabernet Sauvignon during Thanksgiving time in 2004. I’ve always grown up in a family that drinks varied types of wines during the holidays, so I can always look forward to something interesting when celebrating.

I remember my first glass of Pepperwood back in 2004, thinking what an unusual flavor. I commented to a cousin what an unusual wine it was, but was informed it was a Cabernet Sauvignon. Looking around on the buffet table I found the bottle, pleased to see it was, infact, a Cabernet. The romance has not stopped since, I continually come back to Pepperwood Grove.

Pepperwood Grove Cabernet SauvignonThis wine has a very distinct cherry smell. It is not too overpowering, but unusal enough to make you remeber this wine. It has a well rounded taste, with plenty of spice to get your taste buds screaming for more. The finish is strong, with a abundance of fruit left on the tounge. A very rich, very pleasing experience.

Note: Props to Pepperwood/Don Sebastini & Sons for putting so much work into their website. It’s as unusual as the wine is, to see the time and money spent to create a great website for a vintry.

Wow, Pepperwood Grove can’t seem to make a bad wine if they tried. If they had shares of stock I would buy it up like street crack. My boss has reviewed their Cabernet and won’t shut up about it. Equal props to their chardonnay. Probably one of the best chardonnays I have had thus far. [...]...

WOW, what a wonderful wine I probably need another disclaimer for this review, as I am unexperienced to Syrahs. In my life I cannot, with 100% accurracy, recall if I have ever had a Syrah. Thank you Australia, for keeping money in my pocket and wine in my belly! Around here we have a fast food chain known as Hardee’s, also known in other parts of The States as Carl’s Jr. They are a run-of-the-mill burger joint, mediocre food, mediocre service. Exactly what HardYs is NOT. This is one of [...]...

My hubby and I are newbies in the wine world. A wine salesman, shopping himself at someone else’s wine store (who knows why?) suggested Pepperwood Grove Carbenet Sauvignon when he ran into the two of us — lost among the myriad bottles with the different labels. When we looked at the bottle, we were not impressed much: The label is simple, too modern perhaps, with no sign of old-winery airs.

But we brought it home. And we liked it. Being newbies, we continued our quest. We spent the next few months trying different tab;e wines, tying to “educate” ourselves. Occasionally, we would buy a Pepperwood Grove bottle cabernet sauvignon and invariably we would exclaim: “this is indeed better!”. I think our palates have been spoiled for life and only that bright green-label wine will do.

We recently tried the viogner variety and we like that also. We have to try their famous pinot noir next.

If you like this wine, I highly recommend you check out Foxbrook 2005 Shiraz or Black Mountain 2004 Zinfandel (not 05). They all have the great flavor you want…

My local market has had this little gem on sale for $5 since its opening. It’s turned me into a near-alcoholic! Such a terrific price for a wonderful wine, full of depth, lusciousness, and just a thoroughly enjoyable glass (or two or three) of wine.
