Yellow Tail Chardonnay 2004

May 3rd, 2006

images.jpgYellow Tail, the Ford or Chevy of Australian wines so it is allowed to disappoint once in a while.

At $4.99, I did not have high expectations and this wine did not give me any surprises. The nose was rather weak but did display peachy vanilla and coconut aromas, as claimed on the bottle. I just would not use the phrase “leaps from the glass”. This wine was easy to drink, I guess, because I forgot about the whole experience after the bottle was gone. Don’t get me wrong, It is not a horrible wine, I have just had better chardonnays (Pepperwood Grove). Probably good with chicken or pasta but no need to rush out and get this baby.

Wow, Pepperwood Grove can’t seem to make a bad wine if they tried. If they had shares of stock I would buy it up like street crack. My boss has reviewed their Cabernet and won’t shut up about it. Equal props to their chardonnay. Probably one of the best chardonnays I have had thus far. [...]...
    • Yellow Tail Shiraz 2005
This wine was reasonably priced $5.50-6.00, and overall is an astringent, well-balanced selection that perfectly embodies the fine wines of South Eastern Australia. The nose bounds forward with hints of vanilla and berry, tapering off with sharp penetrating oaky aromas. The texture has a hard robust structure but is balance by dense mouth-filling fruity highlights [...]...

Editors Note: This wine was previously reviewed by another CorkReview.com contributor, who gave it a 4.5 star rating Damn good wine. I am becoming one of Pepperwood Gove’s biggest fans (where is my t-shirt). I have been on a quest to find and try every Pepperwood Grove product that I can get my hands on. [...]...

Smooth drinkin. This was a good Pinot Noir and the first Australian Pinot that I have tried also. Of course, any wine with Australia stamped on the front of it seems incapable of dissapointment. At $5.99, it is a steal (but don’t raise prices please). Pinot Noir is a very versatile wine, nothing really comes [...]...

Want to be rich, lose weight, and look good naked? Buy this wine. I am not much of a white wine lover, let alone dessert wines but this wine really hits the spot. It is a little young, but you would not be able to tell the difference. If you never have had a Riesling, [...]...

[...] Other opinions on this wine run the gamut. LogDriver gave it four stars, noting, “this affordable Chardonnay was buttery and rich. Sweeter than usual, I even got hints of chocolate and caramel if I exhaled deeply.” April said it ” exhibits a golden straw colour with ripe peach and melon aromas and sweet oak nuances. The palate is fresh and approachable with balanced acidity and a lingering finish of delicious peach, melon and tropical flavours.” CorkReview was a bit more reserved, noting, “Yellow Tail, the ford or chevy of Australian wines so it is allowed to disappoint once in a while… The nose was rather weak but did display peachy vanilla an coconut aromas, as claimed on the bottle. I just would not use the phrase ‘leaps from the glass.’” April’s experience was closest to mine, though I have to agree with CorkReview on the relatively weak nose not doing much leaping. [...]

Made me sick as hell! Maybe I shouldn’t judge wine based on a hangover BUT I only had 2 glasses…..I had bottles of wine in one sitting and I never felt as bad as that the next day!
